Meiji Jingu Gaien was dedicated to Meiji Shrine in 1926 to preserve the virtues of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken for future generations.
The approximately 300-meter ginkgo tree-lined avenue stretching from the Aoyama-dori entrance to the outer gardens central plaza transforms into brilliant golden hues from mid-November through December.
During peak viewing season, illumination events are held, drawing crowds of visitors to enjoy the spectacular display.
Please note that the illumination runs from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, ending relatively early in the evening.
