Visit Report of Tokyo Metropolitan Government Observation Deck

This observatory in Tokyo is one of the finest free ones you can find. It sits on the 47th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, giving you a stunning panoramic view of the city from 202 meters above the ground.

There are separate observation areas on the south and north sides, each with their own opening hours, holidays, and amenities. While the views are quite similar, here are the highlights: on the west side, you get a beautiful sight of the triangular-roofed Shinjuku Park Tower, the 222-meter-tall Tokyo Opera City, and Mt. Fuji; on the north side, you're treated to a spectacular view of Shinjuku's myriad skyscrapers.

During twilight hours, especially around an hour before and after sunset, there can be quite a queue for the elevators leading to the observation deck. So, if you plan to visit during these magical hours, make sure to allow plenty of time for your visit.

Additionally, every day at the Tomin Hiroba, you can experience projection mapping on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building itself. It's a must-see, so definitely consider stopping by!
