Visit Report: Yasukuni Shrine Night Cherry Blossom Pilgrimage 2026

Yasukuni Shrine in Kudan has long been beloved as a famous cherry blossom viewing destination. In spring, approximately 500 cherry trees including Someiyoshino and weeping cherry varieties bloom magnificently, painting the shrine grounds in vibrant colors. Visitors can enjoy diverse scenic views throughout the grounds: the inner sanctuary dyed entirely in pink, the spectacular cherry tree-lined path in front of Yushukan museum, and the emotionally stirring reflections on the water surface of the sacred pond garden.

Since 2023, the "Night Cherry Blossom Pilgrimage" began, with the shrine gates specially opened during nighttime hours when they are normally closed. While entry to the inner sanctuary is not permitted, visitors can gaze up at the illuminated night cherry blossoms through the gates, where the mystical scene of the solemn shrine buildings woven together with cherry blossoms offers a completely different charm from the daytime experience.

During the blooming season, food trucks also appear at the "Outer Garden Rest Garden" in front of the middle torii gate. Why not enjoy a leisurely spring moment with light refreshments in hand?
